When an arts organization requests support for activities that are central
to its mission as well as the Jerome Foundation's, it is possible for the
Foundation to provide general operating support. In most cases, Foundation
funding is designated for particular programs or projects. Support for an
organization presenting the work of one artist or the same group of artists will
be limited to three to five years. Organizations that operate selection
procedures through which emerging artists are identified, and the artists change
from year to year, may continue to receive support for as long as the programs
remain vital.
The Jerome Foundation restricts its program to Minnesota and New York City.
Approximately 60% of the annual budget is allocated to Minnesota and 40% to New
York City. The Foundation requires that at least 51% of the artists a funded
program serves be Minnesota and/or New York City residents. The Foundation's
geographic policy applies both to the organizations that apply and the artists
served by the programs it supports. Adequate payment for artists is essential,
as is an open and inclusive procedure for identifying and selecting artists. The
Foundation does not support capital campaigns, nor does it offer travel grants
outside of the specific Travel and Study Grant Program it administers.
